In creating a list of the film directors who have most inspired and influenced me, I realized a theme running through all of their works: These are directors who use dream imagery in their films; they flawlessly combine reality with non-reality; and make the inner world of a human being just as real as the outer world. They are all visual masters, giving us images and characters we have rarely, if ever, seen before. I thought about why that was so important to me, and realized that I experience even ‘ordinary’ life as exquisitely strange and unbelievable, and these directors are able to translate the unreality of real life in the most beautiful and artistic way possible. And I love that.

Barbara Ireland Releases a DVD of her Avant-Garde Films!

DVD Release June 1, 2011

Seattle singer Barbara Ireland worked for many years in film — she earned a BFA from New York University Film School, directed award-winning shorts and music videos, co-owned a film production company in Seattle called Filmus Maximus, and was Floor Director for KING-TV (NBC) newscasts and Production Associate at KING’s “Evening Magazine” show.

On June 1st Barbara is releasing a DVD of her short, experimental films and music videos in a collection titled, From Dreams To Delirium… and Seattle’s fantastic Northwest Film Forum is hosting the DVD release party! There will be drinks, snacks, fascinating people, wild films… and a ‘Secrets Booth’!
